What to Expect at Make Inclusive Tech Sundays
Your Journey with Cocreation
1 Arrive and Feel Welcome
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by friendly volunteers who will help you feel at home. We’ll give you a quick tour of the space, introduce you to other participants, and explain how our inclusive process works. Don’t worry if you’re nervous—everyone is here to learn and support each other.
What happens:
- Warm welcome from our facilitator and volunteers
- Brief orientation of the space and our work
- Meet other makers and participants
- Get a feel of the sample assistive devices
You might feel: Curious, nervous, excited, or a bit overwhelmed—all of these are normal! We’re here to make sure you feel comfortable and supported.
2 Create and Collaborate
This is where the magic happens! Share your idea or challenge with other participants and our facilitators. Maybe you or someone you know needs a device to make daily tasks easier, or perhaps you want to adapt something you already have. Together, we’ll explore existing opensource designs, learn by doing, and start bringing your idea to life through hands-on collaboration.
What happens:
- Share your needs and ideas with facilitators and other participants
- Explore open-source designs that might help
- Learn by doing—3D modeling, trying existing devices, prototyping
- Co-create with others, combining everyone’s skills and experiences
- Test and improve your idea with other users
- Apply your unique skills to help solve accessibility challenges
You might feel: Empowered, challenged, proud, and connected. Remember—it’s about the journey and learning together through doing, not creating a perfect product on your first try.
Important: If you don’t finish a project today, that’s completely okay! Our sessions are designed for participants return week after week to continue their work. The process of learning and creating together is what matters most.
3 Reflect and Plan Your Next Steps
Before you leave, we’ll help you capture what you’ve created and learned. Take photos of your work, get opensource design files, and plan your next steps. Whether you’re coming back next week or taking time to think about your project, we’ll make sure we are here every Sunday.
What happens:
- Review what you’ve accomplished
- Take photos of sketches, prototypes, download opensource design files
- Share your experience and feedback
- Plan your next visit or next steps
- Connect with new friends
You might feel: Accomplished, grateful, inspired, and eager to return. You’ve just taken an important step in creating technology that works for you!
