The great thing about open-sourced Assistive Devices is not only can they be customised, they also save people with disabilities time, energy, and money when compared with obtaining a mass-marketed assistive device. Instead of searching through shops, online stores, reviews, waiting for shipment, buying and testing just to find a device that fits, people with disabilities or their caregivers can approach us or just come to our makerspace. We’ll use 3D printable opensource design and modify it to fit their needs, print it, and huzzah! It’ll be done in half the time of the “usual” online shopping process, and make a custom-fitted device that is so much more personalised than anything made in a factory overseas.
If you want to make some yourself, you can! Just borrow a 3D printer, download the template, and start making. You can start with this can opener for free 😀Â
Excellent question! We use opensource design, 3D printing, and volunteer skill and effort to customise a whole range of possible designs and objects. Here are a few of our other low-cost customisable objects
That would be awesome!! We want to keep what we do free and accessible to as many people as we can in Singapore, SEA, and wherever else people need our help. To keep our ideas, 3D printers and makerspace up and running, you can donate to us:
Or if you have tools, gadgets, equipment that are looking for a new life, that would also be really helpful!
And if you want to reach out to us for a request or a visit, you can always get to us through our Linktree.
To celebrate, here’s a fun video for you 🙂
